The Tigers took two extra overtime periods to ultimately beat BYU 55-48 to take home honor of being the first ever Champions of the Miami Beach Bowl.  In the process of beating the cougars, Paxton Lynch tied an all-time and all-bowl record of being responsible for 7 touchdowns while Jake Elliot set a tough standard of 55 yard field goal which is only second in school history to his 2013 kick of 56 yards against the University of South Florida.

Numerous school records for bowl game performances, single season stats, as well as career success were set or tied during the game. However, none matched the accomplishments of the team which were culminated with this being the first 10 win season in almost 75 years.
