Vivarium vs Tortoise table: Which is the best tortoise enclosure?
When it comes to housing tortoise, it is not an easy task to provide a home as similar to the tortoise’s natural environment as possible. Most tortoise owner will get confuse when looking for suitable indoor enclosures for tortoises.
There are two of the most common types of tortoise enclosure are Vivariums and Tortoise. Each of them has their own pros and cons and effects on a variety of species.
The biggest problem with vivarium is lack of ventilation, especially in homemade vivariums. When constructing their own vivariums, many owner want to keep the enclosure warm and forgot about the vents.
However, there are many commercical vivarium for tortoise that be constructed with adequate ventilation, which is very important for the health of the tortoise. You can easy choose on of them in the market.
You just need to ensure that the vivariums you choose has the vent holes or mesh screen. Most all species of tortoises seem to do well in enclosed vivariums with adequate ventilation. You can rest your mind that these vivarium will still retain a reasonable temperature at night if you setup the enclosure with a basking bulb.
Beside, vivarium also do the great job to keep your tortoise safe inside due to the glass sliding doors. The doors can be locked and protect your pets from inquisitive children or home pets.

The advantage of tortoise table is that it has maximum ventilation. It is widely believed that tortoise is the best tortoise enclosure. However, it is not true for all the cases. This also depends on the species of tortoise, the environment where you live and keep the table, and whether or not you wish to hibernate your tortoise.
If you are kepping Mediterranean species such as Horsfield tortoise, then they can do very well in both vivarium and tortoise tables. This is because in the wild, the temperature around them will reduct naturally at night.
It is more difficult to maitain the ideal temperature at night in the tortoise table than a vivarium. While tropical species need higher temperature at night, so they more prefer to live in vivarium. The Tortoise Table may struggle maintaining a reasonable temperature especially during the winter.
